Claus Hessler – A lesson with your myth
Besides being a “in demand“ clinician and performer in Germany and Europe, Claus is writing educational columns for the German “drums & percussion” magazine and the “Modern Drummer” as a member of the MD EducationTeam. His first educational package “Open Handed Playing Vol.I” (released with Alfred Publishing; co-authored by Dom Famularo and with a preface by Billy Cobham) gained worldwide recognition including a four-star review in the “Modern Drummer“.

He also released “Open-Handed Playing Vol. II: A Step Beyond” and “Daily Drumset Workout” internationally with Alfred Publishing. Claus‘ individual style is defined as a mixture of real remarkable technical skills, ostinato-work and open- handed playing – bridging the gap between between “just drums“ and real-world musical applications. His appearances at international drummer meetings include sharing stage with players like Steve Smith, Alex Acuna, Luis Conte, Walfredo Reyes Jr., Dom Famularo or Virgil Donati.
In Germany Claus maintains a busy teaching schedule including the University for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. His live and studio credits include touring with Grammy Award winning vocal group “New York Voices“ just as recording with Mike Stern, Sting‘s Dominic Miller and Rhany Krija or German organ virtuoso Barbara Dennerlein to name just a few. His clinics feature an entertaining mix of displaying his musical and drumistic skills while passing on drumming techniques – not to forget about the history of drumming with an eye towards the future of the instrument.
