The artistes on Beck’s Wood & Brass Stage
From classical to rock, from new compositions to international hits – the line-up on Beck’s Wood & Brass Stage covers various genres of woodwind and brass music. Five high-profile ensembles are already confirmed to Musikmesse 2017:
Viera Blech
Whether it is party time, festival or concert hall – this extraordinary seven-member ensemble from the Tyrol can look back on numerous major performances over the whole of Europe and has also become well known on radio and television. Since their much acclaimed gig at “Woodstock of Brass Music” and their polka hit, “Von Freund zu Freund”, if not earlier, they have become a real fixture on the scene.
Marshall Cooper
Through their compositions this sextet has succeeded in transforming the epic language of film music into the driving sound of a brass band. The group describes their debut LP, “Backseat Lover”, as an “album full of soundtracks which never were but ought to have been, and could be used in any Tarantino film.”
Da Blechhauf’n
For 15 years this septet has been on the move in every part of the German-speaking countries, featuring various stage shows. In an expanded group the band goes its own musical way – and gains high marks with an imposing stage presence. Each of the musicians combines comic talent with professional brass-music performance. Thus at its concerts Da Blechhauf’n emanates pure joie de vivre.
Bullhorns
The Bullhorns take songs by acts such as the Beatles, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple and clothe them in an entirely new sound. The nine-member ensemble recently released its first LP, an album entitled “Batang”, with support from Jazz superstar James Morrison.
Fättes Blech
Seven brass musicians and a drummer come together to ensure a great party mood. The boys from Baden-Württemberg have no respect for the conventions of traditional brass music, instead they are incorporating elements of rock, pop and hip-hop into their arrangements. This original mix is loved by their fans well beyond the woodwind and brass music scene.
Copa Kapella – Road to Woodstock
Along with the scene’s well-established artistes, Beck’s Wood & Brass Stage also turns the spotlight on the stars of tomorrow. At the finale of the Copa Kapella band contest five selected bands will be giving of their best. The band chosen by the jury will get a place in the line-up on the main stage of “Woodstock of Brass Music”. Over 70 bands from 13 countries have answered the call to join the competition – so visitors can expect an international array of full-blooded musicians.
Along with the acts and programme features set out above, Beck’s Wood & Brass Stage will also be featuring numerous appearances by endorsers of companies represented at Musikmesse. The complete programme, with performance times, will be published shortly.
