As you may already know the Marshall name is synonymous with guitar amplification. What you will probably not know is that the founder of Marshall Amplification, Jim Marshall OBE, was in fact a drummer and a drum teacher. Jim was as passionate about drums as he was about amps.
The Natal design team have produced a stunning range of drums, snare drums and hardware. Every part and component is designed from the ground up, with specific instruction from Jim that those parts and components should be non-generic. Jim believed that Natal drums and hardware should not only be innovative but they should also have an integrity that, like Marshall Amps, will stand the test of time.
Natal Stave and Hand Hammered snare drums were particularly close to Jim’s heart because they are built at the Marshall factory in Milton Keynes, England. To bring drum manufacturing back to Britain when so much is produced abroad is an achievement of which Jim was particularly proud.

Natal è sinonimo di severità nei controlli, di profonda attenzione verso il mercato, di prodotti di elevato livello, il che comporta un innalzamento del concetto qualitativo e di una spinta in avanti nello studio del design della batteria e percussioni. Con le stesse caratteristiche e concetti di alto livello qualitativo, la Marshall è orgogliosa di annunciare la recente acquisizione della rinomata azienda britannica Natal percussion.
Natal è stato originariamente concepito negli anni ’50 da un percussionista inglese, Alan Sharp che, incapace di trovare gli strumenti esatti che voleva, decise di far costruire differenti percussioni a diverse aziende. Da subito i nuovi prodotti acquistarono consenso e prestigio, grazie anche all’attività didattica di Sharp che diffuse le percussioni fra i suoi numerosi allievi e dato il successo, venne fondata ufficialmente nel 1965 la Natal Percussion Society.
Il prodotto che andava per la maggiore era totalmente innovativo, un tipo di conga per la prima volta costruita interamente in fibra di vetro, sistema dunque rivoluzionario che da subito incontrò consensi ovunque. Questi nuovi strumenti Fibreglass Congas vennero immediatamente utilizzate dal percussionista di Santana, dei Rolling Stones, dei T. Rex e dulcis in fundo il grande John Bonham dei Led Zeppelin.
Per tutti gli anni ’70 e ’80 l’azienda ha continuato a progettare, sviluppare e produrre strumenti a percussione di eccelsa qualità, diffondendo gli strumenti in tutto il mondo. Nei primi anni ’90 si ha l’introduzione di una prima gamma di congas in legno – serie Fusion – che combina il design unico Natal con il suono caldo e naturale del frassino. Nell’ultimo periodo e fino ad oggi, l’azienda si è concentrata esclusivamente sul mercato del Regno Unito, continuando a progettare, perfezionare e produrre strumenti di altissimo livello, sempre prestando attenzione alle richieste del mercato.
Oggi Natal offre un parco strumenti vario ed interessante grazie a congas in diverse serie, Fuego, Fusion, Classic e una terza linea detta high-end Cubana, quest’ultima prodotta presso lo stabilimento Marshall.
